Playlists for your Canadian Road Trip

Updated: Mar 14, 2019

There is nothing like having some great Canadian music playing while exploring. If you are driving along an empty stretch of highway or arriving at a cool city there is something for you. The musical vibes vary by region.

The Tunes

Take a listen at some of our Out Here Canada playlists. Make sure to be in Canada while listening! All playlists are on Spotify.

Road Tripping Classics - Across Canada There are a few bands that resonate across most of the Canadian provinces. These are them. They have a road-trip vibe. You will get going with the likes the Tragically Hip, Great Big Sea, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot and the Band.

Boitte de Chanson - Quebec These tunes are influenced by the original French settlers in Canada. At the same time the style and sounds are intermixed with Celtic music. There are many folksy Quebec singers included. Many have a warm vibe as though they are playing for you and 30 of your friends at a raucous and relaxed party - all in one. Patrick Watson. Harmonium. Jean Leloup. Eric Lapointe. Les Cowboys Fringants. Quebec Redneck Bluegrass Project, Les Dales Hawerchuk, and beyond.

Fiddles & Jigs - the Maritimes & Atlantic Canada The furious fiddle, the jigs, the Celtic Irish influence bring Atlantic Canada alive. These tunes have tons of influence from Scotland, Ireland and the Acadian traditions. The music is quite unique and blissfully cheery while sometimes sad all at the same time.  Great Big Sea, Rankin Family, Barra MacNeils, Feist, Joel Plaskett. Also the classics from Stan Rogers, Irish Descendents and Stompin’ Tom Connors.

Rivers & Roads - Ontario Tunes The music is influenced by our great outdoors, a bit of lumberjacking and from around the world. There isn’t one sound per se, but these artists bring out the Ontario & Toronto soul.

Upbeat - Canadian Tunes We didn’t forget about more recent rock & punk along with 90’s classics like Sloan, Our Lady Peace, Rheostatics and the amazing Arcade Fire. This will keep you upbeat and sometimes singing along after a few listens. This is great for the afternoon stretch on the road with the sun shining through. Artists like the New Pornographers, Metric and Stars round things out.

We are working on adding a few pop and hip hop mixes. Stay tuned if interested.

Happy listening. Regardless of what you get up to, enjoy your time paddling, traveling and adventuring on - in Canada.
